We are going to do things a little different this year. We want to encourage everyone to dress up in Christmas type costumes or clothes. We will also have a variety show. Anyone can participate. You and your friends can do a skit, sing a song, write a poem and read it, shoot a video, etc. The only 2 rules are: 1. Keep it clean and 2. Make it fun. Invite your friends, work up an act and come have a blast. Notice that we are going to start at 6:30 instead of 7:00.

Small Group Blitz

Small groups are a very important part of Trinity Student Ministries. Our desire is to get every student connected with a group of peers and a mentor. Small Group BLITZ is an easy way for students to get plugged into a small group. For four Wednesdays, starting August 18th, small groups will all meet together in the Student Center from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. After September 8th small groups will begin to meet on their own. The content for our small groups is the "Live" Curriculum develop by Doug Fields and the team at Simply Youth Ministry. For students not currently in a small group, come to BLITZ and get connected. Give this Christmas Away

During Christmas as a church we were challenged to give this Christmas away. Our students collected cans for "Food Net", contributed money to Miguel and Sumitra that we have adopted through World Vision, and wrote letters to soldiers. Some of the money sent to Sumitra went to buy shawls for teens in their community and the rest went to buy her family sheet metal to repair their house.

Question? How can you personally prepare your mind for action against sin and to be intentional in your relationship with God? Write three action steps.

Last few weeks we talked about social issues at Mpact. The challenge we face as the church is how to be a part of the solution, not just complain about the problems. These are some people that are doing their part to help. Check em out an pray that God will help you find your role.

Soles4Souls has a simple mission: To impact as many lives as possible with the gift of shoes. Soles4Souls facilitates the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide.
The idea behind gifts of shoes is nothing new to the Soles4Souls team, as they coordinated relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, netting over 1 Million pairs donated for these disasters. The team originally operated as www.katrinashoes.org with several churches partnering in the collection and distribution of footwear.

Loose Change to Loosen Chains position:
1. 27 million people are still in slavery today. It's estimated that 50 % are children.
2. They may be tricked with the promise of a good job, deceived or sold, working in brothels, brick kilns, on plantations and in many industries.
3. We can provide the freedom they're praying for.

On Sunday December 14th from 1:00pm till 5:00 The Bridge Ministry of Acadiana will be hosting The Gift of Music at River Ranch. We will have football toss booth for kids to play and win prizes. If you are interested in helping out with the booth let us know. We are encouraging everyone to go. There will be great music and loads of fun. We will not have MPact that night.

On Friday December 19th will be our annual High School Christmas Party and Bonfire from 6:30 till 10:00. We talked about the Bible's instruction concerning government. Here are the verses we discussed.

Romans 13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

1 Peter 2:13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

This week we talked about Poverty. Here are some verses that speak to this issue.

In 1 Corinthians 16, Paul talks about a collection that was sent from the churches to the Jerusalem believers. We also find many scriptural admonitions calling for Christians to distribute their resources to others compassionately (2 Cor. 9:7; 1 Tim. 5:9-10; 6:18; James 1:27).

Testament, Paul reminds the Thessalonians of their church rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat" (2 Thess. 3:10). Christians should gently but firmly admonish those whose poverty is the result of poor work habits to begin taking responsibility for their own lives.

God especially loves and cares for the poor: "‘Because the poor are despoiled, because the needy groan, I will now arise,’ says the Lord; ‘I will place him in the safety for which he longs’" (Ps. 12:5). "The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord and the poor among men shall exult in the Holy One of Israel" (Isa. 29:19). "For thou hast been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress" (Isa. 25:4). God will not forget or forsake the poor or the needy (Ps. 9:12, 17-18, 10:12; Isa. 41:17).

Jesus often associated himself with the poor and with society’s outcasts and was criticized for it (Matt. 11:19; Luke 7:34). It would seem that Jesus and the disciples in fact adopted the life style of the poor. In an incident recorded in all three Synoptic Gospels (Matt. 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-28; Luke 6:1-5) Jesus’ disciples pluck grain to eat while passing through the fields. Although the issue here is that of the Sabbath law, the disciples seem to be exercising the rights of the poor, and even the breaking of the Sabbath law is defended on the grounds that the needs of hunger outweigh legal strictures. When Jesus sent the disciples out, he required them to go in extreme poverty (Luke 9:3; 10:4).

Matthew 25:31-46: I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.

During September we talked about getting to know God. We had great discussions about when it seems like God isn't listening and how to hear him during tough times. We also talked about our identity in Christ and finished with looking at the question of faith.

Faith is something that is very personal. It is an issue between every person and God. We have to remember that a relationship with Christ does not come from going to church or being in a Christian family. Every person must struggle through the issues of faith in a God we can't see and make the decision to trust in Him.

During the month of August we talked about what it meant to "Go for Gold" in life. Just like athletes we have a choice to live life in such a way as to win the prize. Our back to school series took a look at three things that are needed to win gold in life.

1. You must be on the team to win gold - Life is meant to be lived in relationship with God through faith in Christ.

2. You must have focus - Christ is not a pass-time or hobby it is a lifestyle.

3. You must train well - Practice is failing over and over again until we get it right. Spiritual training involves developing spiritual HABITS

There’s No Place Like Home
A Look at the Lost Son

So…What happened anyway?

• The son REBELLED against his father
A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and took a trip to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money on wild living (Luke 15:13).

• The son came to the point of REALITY
When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, “At home even the hired men have food enough to spare, and here I am, dying of hunger!” (Luke 15:17).

• The son chose to REPENT
I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired man” (Luke 15:18).

• The father REJOICED
So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long distance away, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him (Luke 15:20).

This week we traveled to Panama to visit the Canal which serves as a shortcut for ships traveling around South America.

Jesus is THE way.
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”(John 14:6).

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

Recognizing Your Amazingness

Note To Self: I am an AMAZING THING!

I Am Amazing Because:

God HAND-MADE me.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27).

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—and how well I know it (Psalm 139:13-14).

God CARES ABOUT me.

How To Enjoy My Freedom

Understand what TRUE freedom really is
“If the son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Identify what SINS own me
. . . I am sold into slavery, with sin as my master. I don't understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate. I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong . . . (Romans 7:14-16).

Determine to SERVE Jesus
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” (Matthew 6:24).

• Take a CLIMBING PARTNER with you
As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend (Proverbs 27:17).
By yourself you're unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn't easily snapped (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

• Take the right EQUIPMENT
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes… Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:10-17).

• Take ONE STEP at a time
God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns (Philippians 1:6).

• Take a DETERMINED attitude
So we're not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace (2 Corinthians 4:16).

This week we traveled to Zimbabwe to see Victoria Falls, which is a phenomenal waterfall. It stands out as extremely different from the rest of the area.

• Trust God
Noah did everything just as God commanded him (Gen 6:22).
And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him (Gen 7:25).

• Don’t worry about what others think
Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10).

This week Mark Matlock gave a challenge to students to embrace forgiveness. Some teens become victims to poor life choices by their parents. It is important if you find yourself in this situation that you first forgive. Christ was willing to forgive us and we should be willing to forgive others, including our parents.

Teenagers are faced with living up to the expectations of parents, teachers and other authorities in their lives. You may feel like no matter how well you do you always fall short of what seems like perfection. We talked about the story of John Mark in Acts 12-15. Mark had people in his life that believed in him, but also extended grace when he failed. Forgiveness goes both ways in a child parent relationship. We need to forgive our parents for their mistakes as they forgive us for ours.
